Are your Sinuses Bothering You? Here are some tips to help avoid sinusitis and to start breathing clearly!
- Use a humidifier. Don’t have one? Rest a washcloth (rung out with hot water) over your face for a few minutes to stimulate blood circulation, loosen mucus and relieve pain.
- Place pressure on the sides of your nose. Press the top of your nose on either side between two fingers for a few minutes and release.
- Avoid dairy, oranges, white sugar and foods containing white flour. They promote mucus formation!
- Add cayenne, garlic, ginger, horseradish, and onions to dishes to aid mucus drainage.
- Steam inhalation works directly on the sinuses, loosening thick mucus and fighting infection. Pour 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil in a bow of hot water (ie. Lavender, peppermint, pine, thyme or tea tree).
- Take some Vitamin A + C to help boost the immune system and heal your mucus membranes.
- Try a Homeopathic Remedy. For example: Kali Bich 30c is a great remedy for sinus pain and pressure that is lodged at the bridge of the nose, pressure over the eyes and mucous that is sticky and thick. Symptoms are worse stooping and bending forward, while warmth and firm pressure ameliorates. Book an acute Homeopathic appointment ($50) or a Naturopathic Consult at Sage for a more individualized treatment protocol to help you heal.
