The menopausal transition can be a difficult time for many women with the onset of new symptoms never experienced before or an aggravation of existing symptoms. There are certainly physical and mental emotional symptoms that can make many women feel like they are going crazy or simply just not feeling themselves. Most common symptoms include anxiety, heart palpitations, insomnia, hot flashes/night sweats, vaginal dryness, low libido and weight gain. Unfortunately, there is still not a consistent message coming from primarily health providers contributing to confusions and frustration when seeking help.
I have devoted the vast majority of my training to support middle aged women through this time. I am here to tell you that you have options, and you can thrive through menopause. Here are some treatments and supports to consider:
- Non-hormone Therapies or natural health supplements: There are non-hormone options available to support you through this transition. There are plant based hormone modulators and topical products that can help you. Stress-reducing strategies and dietary changes can also really help improve your resilience.
- Menopausal Hormone Therapy: there are many SAFE and effective hormone therapy options. Depending on the hormone, various routes of administration exist- including oral pill or topical cream/gel/patch. The hormones used are often ‘bioidentical’ to our own endogenous hormones (Estradiol, progesterone and testosterone).
